This client gave us a call so that we could help her preserve her parents home. They had tried doing everything they could to fix the rippling floors and moldy smell. They had a vapor barrier installed by another company, but after months the issue still remains. As you can see the problem was not fixed. Standing water, mold, and exposed groud were causing issues to build up. This is where we came in to help. We started with a mold spray to kill the excessive mold, then fully encapusulated her crawlspace, installed a sump pump, and a dehumidifer to help the floors and keep future mold from growing.

This home was experiencing an overabundance of moisture intrusion. This was in part due to the amount of excess falling insulation and plastic sheeting on the ground, holding moisture.

Our team cleaned out the crawlspace, getting it ready for a full encapsulation and mold spray. We remove the plastic sheeting as well, because if it is left, it will hold water in puddles leaving a lasting, musty scent underneath. Once it was up, we laid out our liner on the ground and sealed it up across the crawlspace walls as well. We added a sump pump to keep the water out of the crawlspace, and a dehumidifier to maintain the dry atmosphere.

Calling with regards to floors sinking, Brett performed a crawlspace inspection.  He found moisture to be the main cause and recommended sealing off the crawlspace and installing an encapsulation system. Once the crawlspace holds moisture, the sub-floor absorbs it. This leads to sagging and eventual rot. 

By sealing off the crawlspace and waterproofing it, we are able to prevent water intrusion and pump the ground water out before it becomes a problem. We also install a SaniDry Dehumidifier that will help regulate the humidity in the crawlspace.

This Clinton Mississippi resident reached out to us via Facebook because they saw our post about treating and preventing crawlspace moisture. As you can see from the pictures their floors were buckling substantially, causing a real risk to their family. Not only would they be easy to trip over, but that much moisture in the crawlspace causes the home’s air to be tainted and can flare up allergies and asthma. Healthy moisture readings for wood can range anywhere from 1-15%. Once they hit 16% and above mold can begin to grow and spread. This Mississippi home’s joists were reading anywhere from 24%, all the way up to 43.5%!

Our crew came in and completely cleaned the crawlspace, sealed off any open vents, installed a sump pump and dehumidifier, and spread our waterproof CleanSpace liner over the entirety of the crawlspace. This not only protects the crawlspace, but without all the moisture traveling up into the home, the floors will get a chance to settle and flatten and the air quality will improve drastically. Having a vapor barrier in the crawlspace also helps lower utility bills.

Our house is very humid and is shaded heavily in summer. We have had issues with the dampness. A few years back we had plumbing work done and the plumber removed the moisture barrier. To my knowledge, he did not replace it. That has me concerned about moisture under the house creating excess moisture in the house.
