Musty Dangers in Forest, MS
Challenge
This homeowner reached out to us about a very common problem we come across in our work - crawl space moisture issues. This moisture problem under their home had gotten bad enough to start causing effects in the inside of their home as well, such as a lingering, musty smell, and noticeably worse air quality. Their situation was a bit different though, not only were these issues putting their home in danger, but also putting their family in danger. Their son struggles with very bad allergies, which were being triggered by whatever was creating these smells under the home. For both the safety of their son and their home, they decided to contact us to see what could be done. After a conversation with one of our Customer Care Representatives, DeRosia, they got onto our schedule for one of our System Design Specialists to go out, assess the problem, and provide a free, detailed estimate. On the day of the appointment, Tristan arrived in the morning to introduce himself and go ahead and take a look under the home.
Solution
During his inspection, Tristan discovered the root of the problems, and that was how humid this crawl space had gotten. The humidity percentage was much higher than it should be, which absolutely led to the growing of the mold he also found. There seemed to be an attempt to combat these issues before with a combination of several standard vapor barriers, but these clearly did not offer enough protection as it. After finishing his thorough inspection, Tristian went ahead and created his estimate on site and presented the plan to the homeowner. They were very fond of the idea of our Encapsulation System and the benefits it offered, and decided to move forward with that option. We scheduled her for another date to send one of our own crews out to start the work, led by foreman, Ronnie. Fortunately for our crew, this crawl space was already a prime candidate for our services, the underside of this home was tall and closed in. Closing in the crawl space is important, as completely sealing off the underside from moisture and outdoor humidity is a large goal of our process. Our thick, durable CleanSpace Liner is secured to all of the floor, walls, and supports of the crawl space to also help achieve this goal. Along with that, is our powerful TripleSafe Sump Pump, and energy-efficient crawl space Dehumidifier. These will work together to keep water out of the crawl space, and keep the humidity low, meaning mold will not be able to thrive. After finishing off with our Mold-X Treatment, we left the customer satisfied with a solution they described as "just what they had been looking for". We're proud we were able to help protect both their family and the home that family stays in!
