Sidewalk and Driveway Trouble in Brandon, MS
Challenge
This homeowner reached out to us wanting to finally do something about their troubles with their driveway and front walk way. Essentially all the concrete in front of their home had cracked or settled in some way. They wanted to be able to preserve the value of the home, but they also wanted to get rid of the tripping hazard that had formed outside their door. After reaching out to us and speaking to one of our customer care representatives, Isaiah, they set up a date and time for one of our expert design specialists to go out and begin on a plan. The specialist, Caleb, made it out there and took a thorough look at each slab, taking details notes and drawings of each crack and problematic point he came across. By the end of the appointment, he had a detailed, sketched out plan that he was able to sit down and discuss with the homeowner. Many cracks lined the driveway, and a whole collection of them formed by their garage, but lifting that section of walkway near the door was a main priority. The homeowners liked the plan, and decided to move forward and allow us to address each of these issues.
Solution
Our talented concrete crew, led by our concrete foreman, Brian, headed out to the home with a variety of solutions and got to work on making it happen. For any sunken areas, spots where voids had formed underneath were located and precise holes were drilled into the surface of the concrete above. These voids formed overtime due to moisture finding its way under the concrete and causing erosion, with a lack of support under the slab, it started to sink. The purpose of these holes is to create a way to pump our PolyFoam, a high-strength polyurethane foam that will expand and fill each void, hardening, and then raising the concrete. This not only allows us to bring the concrete back to its original position, but also acts as a support to make sure it stays there. Once the process has finished, which only takes about a day, it will be safe to walk on and the drill holes will be filled. Of course, leaving it as is and not taking care of the cracks would just allow more voids to eventually form. For each crack discovered, we use our high quality joint sealant, NexusPro. This high-grade sealant is able to hold up against strong UV rays and harsh weather, constantly acting as a shield against moisture no matter how its looking outside. It is also very flexible, meaning this concrete will still be safe as things shift and soil moves in the future. Not a single crack is missed, every possible breach is sealed. Once both parts are completed, these products come together to create the ultimate solution, achieving both goals for the homeowner of protecting property value, and protecting themself!
