Humid Crawl Space Issues in Vicksburg, MS
Challenge
This homeowner had recently gotten a mold test done and unfortunately found out that they did test positive for interior mold inside their home. While we can't offer much help for interior hold, the homeowner still asked us to come out and see what we could do. He had a hunch that the origin of the mold may not have started inside the home, he had actually began to smell musty scents coming from under his home. After speaking to a customer care representative, Isaiah, he got himself set up with an appointment to receive a free inspection and estimate for his crawl space. One of our design specialists, Caleb, was the one sent out to go take a look and see what may be going on. After a thorough inspection of the entire underside of the home, Caleb discovered that the homeowner's hunch was correct, there was mold growing in the crawl space. This was due to the complete lack of moisture protection, allowing the crawl space to become wet and humid, creating a perfect environment for mold to thrive. While still at the home, Caleb wrote up a detailed proposal and sat down with the homeowner to discuss a plan to eliminate this moisture issue and answer any further questions the homeowner may have had. He liked the idea of our encapsulation system and believed it may be best to stop the spread of future mold and emergence of other problems, and entrusted us to put it all in place.
Solution
One of our crew foreman, Ronnie, was then sent out at a later scheduled date to make this solution a reality. He and his team got under his home and throughout a two day process to put each part of the encapsulation together. This included placing down our drainage matting and CleanSpace Liner throughout the entire crawl space. The Liner covers not only the ground, but the walls and supports of the crawl space as well, making sure we protect against water intrusion from any point. The drainage matting underneath plays a part in helping guide this ground moisture to another vital part of the system, our TripleSafe Sump Pump. The "triple" refers to the three pumps, including the main pump, a backup pump that will kick in for additional power, and even a battery back up pump in the case of power outages. Lastly, they installed our crawl space dehumidifier, which will play a very important part in turning this into an environment not suitable for mold by lowering and keeping the humidity percentage at a safe percent. All of this combined, in a now sealed, dry, and safe environment, should lead to mold-free future once the homeowner has someone come out to remove it. We're happy we were able to help attack it at its source and cause some relief for this worried homeowner!
