Moldy Crawl Space Saving in Philadelphia, MS
Challenge
These new homeowner inherited this home and they knew some work was going to be necessary to keep it around. They didn’t want a quick or temporary fix; they were looking for something long-lasting that would benefit and serve the home for many years to come. Fortunately, they found our company, and we offer exactly what they were searching for. They first spoke with our customer care representative, Rosa, who listened closely to their concerns and identified exactly where we could help. One major red flag was the moldy, mildew-like odors they described coming from beneath the home. Upon hearing this, Rosa stressed the importance of having someone come out to take a closer look and promptly worked with them to schedule a visit from one of our skilled design specialists to inspect the crawl space. When Corey arrived, he found that there had been a previous attempt to protect the underside of the home with a basic vapor barrier. It was clear this solution hadn’t worked—the barrier didn’t fully cover the dirt floor, and signs of moisture and mold were still present throughout the crawl space. To prevent additional mold growth and further moisture damage, it was clear that a serious upgrade was needed.
Solution
Corey completed a thorough inspection of the entire crawl space and prepared an estimate along with a plan for the ultimate solution—an encapsulation system. This system focuses on sealing off the crawl space and protecting and conditioning it using multiple expertly engineered moisture-control products. These include a durable, thicker liner, a crawl space dehumidifier, a sump pump system, and more. Corey then sat down with the homeowners to review all of the details, and together they agreed that moving forward with this plan was the best decision for the long-term health of the home. A follow-up date was scheduled for one of our skilled crews to come out and implement the plan, led by our foreman, Malachi. The crew installed drainage matting and our CleanSpace Liner throughout the entire crawl space to protect against and redirect ground and wall water intrusion. They also installed a crawl space dehumidifier and programmed it to continuously maintain an ideal humidity level beneath the home—not high enough for mold growth, yet not so low that it impacts the floors above. The sump pump was strategically placed at the lowest point of the crawl space, allowing water to easily flow toward it. Any water collected from the surrounding area, as well as moisture discharged by the dehumidifier, is safely directed outside and away from the space. Within just a few days, the installation was complete, and our crew left behind a crawl space that was completely transformed. Excellent work to everyone on our team who helped make this project a success!
