A Crawlspace Makeover for HGTV's Home Town Stars in Laurel, MS
Challenge
After recently experiencing a pest problem at their personal home, Ben and Erin Napier, stars of HGTV's Home Town, wanted to take proactive steps to help prevent future pest issues.
Because pests can be attracted to crawlspaces that are damp, exposed and easily accessible, the Napiers wanted to create a cleaner, more controlled environment beneath their home. They already knew a crawlspace encapsulation was the right step and wanted to make a long-term investment in protecting the space.
Solution
Daniel and his crew completed a full crawlspace encapsulation, transforming the open crawlspace into a cleaner, more controlled environment.
The encapsulation process begins by creating a continuous barrier between the crawlspace and the surrounding ground. The crawlspace liner is installed across the floor and up the walls, helping separate the space from the moisture and humidity that can come from exposed soil. Areas around existing features, including a drain surrounded by cinder blocks, are carefully sealed so the liner creates as complete a barrier as possible.
Controlling moisture is an important part of creating a less attractive environment for pests. An exposed, damp crawlspace can provide the moisture and conditions that pests look for. By encapsulating the space and helping control moisture and humidity, homeowners can reduce those favorable conditions while also protecting the space beneath the home.
The Napiers' crawlspace was particularly well suited for encapsulation because it was tall, open and free of major obstructions, allowing the system to be installed throughout the space. The finished encapsulation provides a cleaner, drier and more controlled environment beneath their home while helping address one of the contributing conditions associated with unwanted pests.
For Ben and Erin, the project was about more than simply responding to a pest problem. They chose to take a proactive approach by improving the environment beneath their home and investing in its long-term protection.
